Recent Scientific Studies
Several human studies have been done on GC (Hydroxycitric Acid). One popular one was titled “Garcinia Cambogia As A Potential Antiobesity Agent” and it was conducted by Steven B. Heymsfield, MD (Lead Scientist) and published in The Journal of the American Medical Association.
This study involved 135 subjects and it compared garcinia against placebo (dummy pill). The study concluded that hydroxycitric acid appears to be a promising experimental weight control agent. A second study titled “The Use of Garcinia Cambogia In Weight Loss: A Systematic Review and Meta Analysis of Randomized Clinical Trials” was done at the Peninsula Medical School and later published in the Hindawi Journal of Obesity. In total, twenty three clinical trials were identified but twelve were included.
The conclusion of this meta-analysis was that a statistically significant difference in weight loss in favor of Garcinia Cambogia was recorded. It is also worth noting that of the 12 studies included, there were only 3 with cases of side effects. And the side-effects included headache, gas, stomach burn and skin rash. The general verdict about Garcinia Cambogia from scientists to-date is that the supplement can be relied upon to lose weight although more studies still need to be done to ascertain any possible long-term effects of using it.
This is another way of saying that the extract is safe to use as there are no adverse effects reported to-date.
Complaints Raised So Far
It would be false to say Garcinia has not attracted any complaints to-date. However, majority of these complaints revolve around side-effects that arise from improper dosage or interaction with other drugs.
Other issues raised are related to quality of the extract (mostly with Made in China products). Generally, for every ten (10) reviews that heap praises on the product you will come across one (1) or two (2) complaints.
So Can Garcinia Be Trusted (Verdict)?
The jury is out. Garcinia Cambogia still works in 2016 and many people have actually benefited from it.
